Don’t just look at transcribed indexes! The transcriber may not have been able to read the writing or the original is in bad shape.
I’ve seen people included in a household census who were obviously part of the neighbor’s family.
If you can’t find a name think of every possible way to spell it. On occasion, if the list is not hundreds of names long, look at it all. Could the name start with a different letter?
