The Great Colonial Hurricane of August 1635 was a category 3.5 hurricane that hit New England. There were 22 ft. storm surges with estimated winds of 130 mph. Remember weather events occurred without warning. This storm was written about by Winthrop and Bradford. More than 40 people died and there was much damage. Colonists often wrote about weather in their journals.
