In October I went to Virginia on family business. While there I stopped for an hour at The Library of Virginia (Archives) in Richmond. I did the same 5 years ago for the same friend. I was really excited with what I found was available.

Some of what they have on microfilm is available through interlibrary loan. I was told you could borrow up to 5 reels. An archivist there gave me an 8 page handout. If you go on their web site and do a thorough search you can download that handout, Genealogical Records at the Library of Virginia.

It takes a little bit of digging. On the page that starts with using the collections move towards the bottom of the page. It will say VA memory and then it says not sure where to start? Click on genealogical records at the library of Virginia. It took me some time to finally find. There’s a lot of good info. Some of their records are not strictly VA.
