John Griffin born 24 Jun 1799 Ireland. Katherine Dorsey b. Abt. 1804 County Clare Ennis, Ireland. I think John came over to US in 1825. The obit for Katherine states that she is 18 years old when she comes to the States, her maiden name is Dorsey and that she is married in Massachusettes and then immediately sets up a farm in Maine, where all of her children are born. Approximate year of marriage is 1822. There are different documents that show Katherine’s last name as McNamara also. I find that confusing and can’t understand why. I found a church in Boston – The Cathedral of Holy Cross that was founded in 1788. I wrote to them twice asking for information and have never heard back. I have the 1850 – 1880 US federal census’. The 1840 special Maine census does not contain the name of Griffin because he had to be a resident, and he wasn’t naturalized until 1844. The 1880 census shows that they have both left Maine and went to Wisconsin to be with their son. I have filled in the blanks of their lives, except place of birth for both, parents names and marriage. If you could help me with my dilema, I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Cindy Thanks for include your email. I was able to answer part questions via your personal email. A review of Find aGrave for John Griffin has copy of his Obit. It explain thah John married Mrs. Catherine McNamara. Catherine is Dorsey/Darsey but had been married prior to John to unknown McNamarsa. Perhap related some how to John McNamara that moves to Beneducta some time as the Griffins. From Richard Kelly book it appears that there was no record of marriage for them in Holy Cross Church. You have try neighboring church or check the Vital records for the City of Boston for a civil marriage. Ennis, Clare Ireland I suggest contracting the Irish living a magazine sole about Iish genealogy. They may be able to point you in right direction for the abswers for John ^ Catherine parents. I go Find a Grave for both John & Catherine and send copies of what found when asking any Irish web site or Public records office for county Clare.
