My wife’s grandfather was born in Maine and “adopted” by a Canadian Family in Ottawa. DNA testing by Ancestry.com indicates a significant number of matches from Aroostook County. Family tradition is that his birth surname was “Jeannes” but I can not confirm that. He stated his birth date as January 18, 1890.
Family tradition also states that his parents put him up for “adoption” when they went to India as missionaries.
Are there birth records by date for the County?
There several of us that answer questions. We need let you know that the State of Maine did not require Vital Records to recorded until May 1892. It take towns fair amount time to actually record Births, Deaths and Marriage. Also about 5 years the State basically made the Vitals recoods restricted.
We need to know some of surnames in families that your grandfather match to see if any of that might be fond around our area
