Hersey is a town in Aroostook County, first settled in 1839 and incorporated on January 25, 1873, from Dayton Plantation, once the township of T5 R5 WELS. The town is named for “General” Samuel Hersey, once the proprietor (owner) of the township before its incorporation. Hersey was in the lumber business in Maine and the Mid-West, and in politics in the Maine Senate and House of Representatives. — Maine, An Encylopedia
