Hi I am searching for birth record of, or parents of a Henry or Henri Crock or Cyr. My ancestor Henry Crock (Le Croc) was born in about 1833. His death certificate says he was born in St Johns New Brunswick however I don’t know how accurate that is. he came to Australia in 1856 on a ship called Earl of Sefton after first sailing to Liverpool on a ship called Themis that sailed from Saint John NB to Liverpool – then he left for Australia. I know nothing of his parents except they are recorded on his marriage certificate as ‘Henry and Mary (surname unknown). he married Charlotte Grimshaw in Beechworth Australia. He died in Jarrahdale Western Australia in 1910 aged 84 allegedly.
He spoke French. I did DNA testing on my father, also known as Henry Crock, and many CYR men came up as contacts so I do think the name was originally CYR. His parents are really the brick wall because I know his history once he came to Australia. Kind regards to you all, Liz Crock Melbourne, Australia
PS other genetic matches come up with names Thibodeau, LeBlanc, Roy, Breaux, Arsenault. Don’t know if that helps.
I asked a fellow member who has expertise in the pertinent databases and he looked for a birth certificate etc. and he found none. As per our 1790 book, starting in the 1770s some of the descendants of Jean Baptiste Cyr and Marguerite Cormier are recorded as Crock instead of Cyr. Ann
