Hi, I’ll be in Maine this September and am searching for any info on my great grandparents and their parents,.
Great grandfather was David Hughey Noddin born 2-27-2887 Stetson MA.
He was a merchant and ran a general store sometime during 1910-1919 in Kenduskeag. His address was 53 Higginsville Rd in 1910. According to a letter he drove a team of horses 11 miles everyday to bring supplies to the store while my GG Helen Murray Noddin ran the store. He was listed in Annual Register of Maine 1919 as a Penobscot County Bangor MA Deputy sheriff.
I would love to know if there are newspaper records or city directories available online or in person for those towns and eras. I would love to visit anyplace I can find having to with this. I do have their cemetary info . I emailed the libraries in Stetson and Kenduskeag with no luck. ANy help would be very appreciated.

Dear David. Your question would best be answered by the Penobscot County Genealogical Society. You question should send tothe follow:
Penobscot County Genealogical Society, c/o Bangor Public Library, 145 Harlow Street, Bangor, ME 04401.enealogical Society. Kenduskeg is now part of Greater Bangor. We at ACGS are in Aroostook County. We are a 3 hour drive north of Bangor.

My grandfather was from Kenduskeag and with this time frame the family would at least have been acquainted with yours. Dad always said his father was specifically from Higginsville. Apparently you’ve looked at the Maine Resisters. Hopefully you were able to see all registers in the time frame. Also it would seem you’re familiar with the census. I’m not surprised there’s no answer from the libraries. They don’t look very big and probably staff or person has no time for searches. You’re more apt to find info at the Bangor Lib.. I used it years ago with success and they’ve renovated the building and the genealogy and local hx section. I walked through last summer and they seem to have a lot of stuff. Just be careful that you abbreviate Maine as ME so people know it’s not Mass.MA.. Now to the lsit of things to check….
ME Sate Lib..I know they had Bangor papers on microfilm years ago. I think they are getting grants to digitize papers. Articles on line about it. Used to be they weren’t open on weekends in the summer. Haven’t been there in years.
ME State Archives..same building as state lib Don’t think they’re open on weekends.
Maine Hx Soc. Maine Memory Network..who knows what may be on there. Non members can pay a fee to do research at the building. Members at least years ago could search for free and were allowed to walk the stacks and I know they had city directories there. Don’t know if directories included any small towns close to larger cities.
URSUS maineinfonet.org/ursus this will show what books are in the Umaine system,Sate Lib and Bangor Lib.
Registry of Deeds for Penobscot county..you never know what you can find there. See if there is anything online.
Town offices…Perhaps they might have town reports from way back. If looking for vital records go on maine.gov to see the rules. Years ago the legislature made it difficult to see /get records. If not related you need a researcher card and pay $50.
The town offices can’t refuse descendants requests. But!! Bring all your proofs with you such as your b/c, your m/c, your parents m/c, moms b/c if applicable, and so forth. Don’t ask for certified copies. Cheaper to get a photocopy and you may get more info. Clerks sometimes added extra info they didn’t need to and there’s no place to put it on today’s forms. Also don’t forget that there may be records in nearby towns as parts broke away and formed new towns. The book the Length and Breadth of Maine goes into that. May also find in the ME registers.
Look for town history books
There’s a Roe and Colby Atlas for 1877 for Aroostook so I think there’s one for Penobscot. It shows the owners of each lot. Usually 1st initial last name.
Google Internet Archive…it’s a non profit in the SF Bay area. They have tons of digitized books etc. Try Maine genealogy or history. Keep plugging away at what they have. You may luck out.
As Dennis said in his answer, we are 3hrs away from the Bangor area.
That’s all I have off the top of my head. Hope it is helpful.
