I am helping a friend who was born in Caribou (she thinks) on Oct. 4, 1924. Her mother is from Fort Fairfield and she was raised by her mother’s family in Fort Fairfield. Her mother’s name was Frances Emily Wade and my friend was raised as Henrietta Wade. She thought her father’s last name was Morrow but doesn’t know why she was told that. When she went to Augusta to get her birth certificate there was no father listed on it but it was a “delayed” birth certificate not the original. She was told that the Caribou records all burned. Would there be an original out there somewhere else or did they all burn? Ancestry only has Maine births to 1922 so that was a bust. If her mother was unmarried, would there have been a “girls home” in Caribou where she would have had her-she can’t think why her mother would have been in Caribou? Her mother went on to marry three times-A unknown Sprague, a Frank Crozier, and Warren Higgins. Any thoughts on some places to explore would be a big help. Thanks in advance. Lynne Holland

PS– I am happy to help with any inquiries about the Brunswick area-I am their volunteer genealogist at the Curtis Memorial Library. Just email me directly or email “refdesk@curtislibrary.com
